Jane’s Journal – The Adventure Of Peter Turning Into A Penguin

Team StoryWeavers|July 06, 2021, 13:13 IST|

Dear Diary,

Peter just can’t stop being naughty. We had to visit Mystitia to help Manny turn Peter back to his parrot self.  He had again messed with Manny’s potions and this time, he had turned into a penguin.

It was fun though to revisit everything we learned about penguins. Here’s your share of the cool facts for the day:

  • Penguins are mainly found only in the Southern Hemisphere.
  • Penguin populations are found in South America, South Africa, Australia, and New Zealand, as well as many small islands in the Southern Pacific Ocean.
  • They are flightless birds. (This explains why Peter was panicking!)
  • These birds are very special and can live in low temperatures.
  • They have large stores of body fat and several layers of scale-like feathers that protect them from icy winds in the cold regions.
  • They smartly huddle together in large groups to keep themselves warm.
  • Can you believe that they are the fastest swimming and deepest diving species of any birds?
  • They can stay underwater for up to 20 minutes at a time.
  •  Their diets are specialised, hence penguins are called piscivorous.
  • Polar penguins can travel long distances quickly by ‘tobogganing’, or sliding across the ice on their bellies and pushing forward with their feet. (What fun that would be. I would be thrilled and Jax would be horrified..hehe)

Aren’t Penguins lovely? What do you think? Also, won’t Peter need some help remembering himself?
