We know that your little ones have enjoyed writing their first story with the help of our step-by-step guide. We have thoroughly enjoyed reading your stories mentioned in the comments section. So, we thought of organising a writing contest for your children!

Writing Contest Instructions For Parents

  • Ask your child to write a story that has a clear beginning, middle, and an end. Children are encouraged to write a story on a piece of paper with a dark pencil (or a pen) to ensure authenticity. You can send a clear photo or scanned copy of this story document. 
  • Children can draw objects or things whenever they find it difficult to put their thoughts into words. For example: Tom’s father decided to take him out for an ? (ice-cream). 
  • Submit the story the child has written in its raw form. We advise you to retain what they have written on their own and not fine-tune it. At this stage, we just need to focus on making writing fun and exciting. Rest assured, the finesse will come with time. 

Winning Criteria For The Writing Contest

  • Entry criteria is as follows:
    • Readability – How easy is it to read the story? 
    • Organization – Can the reader identify the main theme of the story?
    • Imagination – How well are the ideas presented in the story? 
  • If your story meets these criteria, it will be eligible for the lucky draw. Winners will be announced for each grade (1, 2, and 3) separately. 
  • Participation e-certificates will be awarded to everyone. 
  • The last date to send your entries is on or before August 31, 2021.

Writing Prompts To Get Your Child Started

Here are a few writing prompts that will help your child get started with the story writing endeavour. These are for reference purposes only. Original ideas are always appreciated. Do take help of our step-by-step story writing guide while writing a story. 

  • Write a story about a person who was turned into a toy by an evil magician. 
  • A long time ago, a dinosaur was imprisoned in a book. Tell us what happened later. 
  • You came across a magic potion that can turn children into adults and adults into children. 
  • Tell us about a time when the main characters gave away all of their memories for magical powers. 

After your child finishes writing the story, tell them to give it a nice title. Tell them that a good title is often mysterious and should make the reader want to read your story. After that, ask them to read the story again and check if it makes sense to them. If not, encourage them to add the missing details.

Parents should note that writing a story is a complex, rigorous process that demands a child to demonstrate multiple skills. Slowly and steadily, the child will learn to write better and more coherent stories.
