For Dhilip Kumar, the Chief Creative Director at BYJUS, it all started at the age of 10 when he watched Star Wars for the first time. A sudden urge to visualise and create the worlds took shape in his imagination. And that very feeling, he recollects, played a crucial role in him choosing his career path.
Back when I wanted to study something related to design, Architecture was the course to pursue. After I took it, I found out that architecture was the mother of all design courses and that game designing is but a digital version of the real-world architecture, begins Dhilip. Having joined the team early last year, Dhilip, in the latest edition of People Who Make BYJUS a series of employee stories of life and growth at BYJUS tells us all about his amazing journey from being an industrial designer and architect to becoming a game designer.

Dhilip also offers insights on what skills a game designer should have, how through educational games BYJUS is transforming the learning experience for children and also, how to effectively maintain a balance between being a consumer and a creator at the same time.
Having set up highly experienced teams and worked with various studios across the world, Dhilip has contributed to popular games such as Gears of War, God of war, Call of Duty, Ben 10, among many other titles. Dhilip points out, To work as a game designer, one has to be open-minded and must have buckets of empathy. Know that you are going to build a product from which children are going to learn something. As a game designer, you are helping build our future.”
