What’s Mohit’s Secret to Scoring 98.8% in Class 10 Board Exams?

Team StoryWeavers|February 26, 2021, 07:32 IST|

With a whopping 98.8% in the CBSE class 10 board examinations, Mohit Raghav from Ludhiana, Punjab, topped his school for the academic year of 2019-2020. The 17-year-old student from BCM School sat down with Team Storyweavers to share his exam prep journey and reveal his tips to perform well in the boards. Here’s what he had to say!

Excerpts from the interview.

What was your everyday routine like when you were in class 10?

I used to wake up at 5 am every morning and study before going to school. This is when I covered concepts that I found difficult and revised the topics taught the previous day in class. After school, I’d complete my homework and study topics covered that day in school, with the help of BYJU’S.

That’s two study sessions in a day! With this schedule, did you find time to pursue your hobbies?

Yes, I made sure I found time on the weekends to play cricket with my friends. And whenever possible I used to listen to music too. These things are important to keep your mind fresh!

Class 10 is an important year for students and you have come up with a fantastic performance. What was your motivation to study hard and do well in the board exams? Did you have a goal you wanted to achieve?

Before coming to Ludhiana, my parents used to live in a village. They didn’t have the facilities to study like I do. Now that we live in a city, I have opportunities and tools. So I have always felt that I should make use of these opportunities and do well. I believed that if I do well, I can bring my parents a good name and make them proud.

That’s endearing! You mentioned early on that you studied with BYJU’S as part of your board exam prep. Can you elaborate on how it helped you?

Yes! Earlier I used to study only from books but  I was finding it difficult to understand a few concepts. But when you have BYJU’S, it helps you in your studies and can improve your understanding. For example, in BYJU’S, before every lesson starts, the teacher tells you a real-life example. That gives you a curiosity; you feel like, “Okay now I’ll find out why this happens”.

In fact, BYJU’S also helped me cope when I had a rough patch in my class 10. In November 2019, a few days before the pre-boards, I got diagnosed with dengue. I was hospitalised for one week. I tried going to school to catch up on my studies but I was too weak so I had to be on bed rest for one more week. So, that’s two weeks of not attending class. But during bed rest, I used to study with my BYJU’S tab and I could cover all my missed portions with ease. I didn’t fall behind despite my setback.

Has BYJU’S also helped you improve your performance in subjects? If so, which ones?

It has. Before BYJU’S I used to have a little trouble with chemistry and biology. Exams for these subjects have a lot of “why” questions based on facts and phenomena, which I used to find difficult to grasp. But with BYJU’S, they teach you the “why” behind every concept. So that simplified these subjects for me.

Do you have any message for students preparing for their board exams this year?

The pressure usually starts at the beginning of class 10. Everyone tells you to “leave” everything – your phone, television, hobbies, etc. They just want you to sit and study. I’d like to tell students, don’t do that. In life, all things are important. That means studies are important but so are your hobbies. If you can make a timetable for the year at the start of class 10 then you will be sorted with your studies. And don’t forget, you can always talk to your teachers too if you are facing any difficulties.

Team Storyweavers thanks Mohit for talking to us about his exam prep journey! We wish him all the very best for the future and are sure he’ll excel at whatever he chooses!
