Sunday Challenge #10 – Endangered Species | World Environment Day Special

Team StoryWeavers|June 16, 2021, 08:21 IST| 1249

It’s time for the BYJU’S Sunday Challenge! This time, we are commemorating something that happened on Saturday. On June 5, we celebrated World Environment Day. Keeping in line with the theme, for this edition of the Sunday Challenge, we are going to quiz you on some of the most fascinating endangered species across the planet.

Remember:

You can take a shot at the questions and field your guesses in the comments section below. Answers will be revealed on subsequent Sundays in the comment section.

So keep your eyes peeled and put on your thinking caps!

Ready? Here are your questions:

Question 1

Pictured below is the Red Panda, a cute little carnivore that is found along the Himalayas. It is also known by other names like the Lesser Panda and the Red Bear-Cat. One of its nicknames lends its name to a popular web browser. Give either the nickname or the name of the web browser.

Question 2

This curious little species lives on a diet exclusively made of eucalyptus leaves. But these leaves are highly toxic and provide very little nutrition. To accommodate for it, this animal has developed some interesting traits. It has roughly half the metabolic rate of most other mammals its size and it produces a certain enzyme in its liver to break down the toxicity of the eucalyptus. Which endangered creature is this?

Question 3

Contrary to popular belief, the fur of this endangered species does not contain any white pigment. In fact, its skin is black and the hairs in its outer coat are hollow and almost transparent. Thanks to the environment it lives in, this creates an optical illusion of white fur, a convenient camouflage trick. Which species is this?

Question 4

You might know this popular Looney Toons character as Taz. Which endangered marsupial is he supposed to be?

Leave your guesses in the comments section below. And remember, answers will be revealed next Sunday in the comments section too, along with a brand new edition of BYJU’S Sunday Challenge.
