How did the refrigerator evolve from icehouse stores?

Team StoryWeavers|November 06, 2019, 09:11 IST| 77

Have you ever closed the refrigerator door slowly just to see when the light goes off? And then reopened the door immediately to double-check on the light? From cooling yourself in front of an open refrigerator during summers to collecting fridge magnets and sticking to-do lists on it, life without refrigerators would, certainly, be different. Isn’t it?

Now that we have refrigerators, we have to thank American inventor Oliver Evans, who designed the first refrigeration machine in 1805. Since then, refrigerators have come a long way– modified and redesigned to meet growing demands.

How does a refrigerator work?

When you buy a packet of milk and leave it in the kitchen for a couple of hours, the milk gets spoiled. This happens because of the rapid growth of bacteria in the milk. But when you refrigerate the milk, the low temperature in the fridge helps in slowing the growth of bacteria. Hence, the milk stays fresh for a longer time.

In this month’s #evolutionofeverything, let’s take a tour through the history of the evolution of refrigerators.

What do you think would be the next step in the evolution of refrigerators? Tell us below in the comments.

In the next step of the evolution of refrigerator we may be able to extend the life of the food by installing a bacteria killing device in refrigerator. We may keep in track with the growth of bacteria in the refigerator.

Till now we have to only control the refrigerator (with remote or whatever). It may that referigerator can automatically set temperature according to the need of the product. It may that we can use features of mobile phones there on the door of the referigerator to serve as entertainment purpose
In coming evolution it may that referigerator can serve for dual purpose i.e.for heating and cooling. It would be two in one as it could also serve as microwave oven.

Anjali Gupta

November 2, 2019

It must have more features like it will keep things fresh for more than two months, more advance thing from freezer and many more things

As nowadays there is the rapid development of science and technology,in future in 22nd or the 23rd century the 5th fifth generation of computers or A.I. computers will be used in refrigerators. They will know what is kept in the them accordingly they will arrange the food into different compartments automatically. After arranging the food they would give different temperature to different foods according to their requirements and keeping them fresh for a much greater time than the refrigerators of 21st century. They will automatically open if a person comes near it shows his or her hand.
This will be next evolution of refrigerators according to me.
Thank you.

The next step in the evolution of refrigerator would be an eco-friendly refrigerator with the least usage of CFC’s. One would be able to channelise the whole refrigerator within his mobile phone or it would be created using nano technologies which can be carried to different places thus hogging chilled food at all possible times!

Instead of chloroflouro carbon we can use any other gas which is not much harmful for our environment and also which can be a good substitute of chloroflouro carbon that can maintain the temp.inside the refrigerator

It should be like “carrying refrigerator”.
Without plug-in the wire. Instead of it
We can use some charging power to use that.
Once we charged it ,now we can carry it to anywhere.

I think the next step in the evolution of refrigerators is that the
refrigerator will make cold deserts (sweet) we have to put only the
Ingredients and it will make cold deserts or sweets and gives it out
and we can eat the deserts or store it inside the refrigerator. ??

In future , may be a refrigerator without using electrical or any other form of energy.
It may be able to take the heat from the product kept for cooling and
Convert it to get the chilling or freezing using a catalyst. something like mineral or compound
Found in nature or synthetic.
