The Hyperloop

Someone truly said, “Dreams never die”. But the question is, ‘How big can a dream be?’

Hyperloop is the latest addition to the advancements made in the world of transportation. Hyperloop can not only revolutionize mass transit but also reduce the traveling time considerably, thereby reducing the environmental damages that are caused by present modes of transportation.

This revolutionary concept was proposed by Elon Musk, CEO of Aerospace firm, SpaceX. The blueprint of the Hyperloop model consists of two massive tubes that will be stretching between San Francisco and Los Angeles (for its first running project) which will carry passengers through tubes at an unimaginable topping speed, close to 700 mph. Also, the magnetic accelerators will be planted along with the length of the tube, which will help in propelling the pods forward. The tubes through which Hyperloop will transit will be having in a low-pressure environment, which will ultimately surround the pod with a cushion of air that will allow the pods to move safely at such a high speed.

Today, even though we have an efficient and growing transportation system, it is one of the major causes of the environmental damage. Be it air pollution or malpractice of resources – the environmental costs are extremely high and irreparable. Additionally, the speed that Hyperloop can provide us cannot be supported by our existing mode of transport.

Thus, Hyperloop can be the answer for our need of cost-effective as well as a high-speed transportation system. Also, the Hyperloop tubes will have solar panels installed on its roof which will ensure clean energy and green self-powering system.

In this age of unbelievable technological progress, The Hyperloop stands out as one of our fantasy towards the futuristic transportation. It isn’t just about breakthrough speed but also revolves around the concept of collapsing time and distance. The Hyperloop project consists of two massive tubes and the pods carrying the passengers would travel through these tubes at a high speed. The Hyperloop design takes into consideration of the movements and vibrations caused by earthquakes by mounting the tubes on a series of pylons placed roughly at 100 feet from each other throughout the route. These pylons will allow for slip due to thermal expansion and earthquakes.

The futuristic transport system- Hyperloop has come a long way since it was proposed despite the issues such as financial backup, public approval, regulations etc. Following Musk’s white paper, the estimation of cost for the project reaches up to six billion dollars which are far less compared to the California high-speed rail project costing around 68 billion dollars. Even though Hyperloop and the company are still working towards their first operational tunnel, they are setting their goals in having three functioning Hyperloop systems in service by 2021. While it appears to be a fantasy, there are still a lot of reasons to work towards this “future of transport”.
