Its that time of the year! BYJUS Summer Camp is here again!
Your summer holidays are here. You might not be able to venture out and play (we hope youre staying safe and following all Covid protocols) but that doesnt have to stop you from having some fun, right?
Lets kick off this summer camp with the first fun activity – your very own time capsule!
If you are wondering what a time capsule is, it is NOT a fancy futuristic tech product that the next big sci-fi film will feature! Actually, it is an interesting box of things that you can put together with items you have at home.
A time capsule is like a souvenir that you make with everyday things that would be interesting for you, your juniors or whoever opens it several years later.
It would give a glimpse into the time you currently live in. And what better time than now to try it out, right?
A time capsule is pretty easy to make as well. The whole process would not take more than two days, including collecting the material that you need and putting them together.
So, what are you waiting for? Here is how you can make a DIY time capsule:
How to get started?
You need to keep in mind that the time capsule and the things inside it must withstand weather changes and also wear and tear over the years. Also, it needs to be in good shape for a long period of, say, ten, fifteen or twenty years (or however long you plan to keep it unopened). So, it goes without saying that storing your favourite cake is a bad idea! A photo of that cake instead, will perhaps make for a valuable addition.
This is why you need to arrange for a big metallic or plastic box. Aluminium, for instance, can stay underground for 20 years. You might also want to have plastic covers handy to store the items within.
Have a list of things handy!
A list would come in handy. Here is a sample:
If you have access to a garden or a backyard, you can bury the time capsule at least three feet under the ground. Please take help from adults at home for this. For those who don’t have access to such a place, you can choose a portion in the house that is rarely used. You could also use old coffee tins that are smaller and wont really occupy a lot of space.
Who is this for?
This time capsule is for anyone with whom you want to share a slice of your past. It could be your future self, your niece or nephew, or even your own kids or grandkids!
You could even open the time capsule with your grandkids!
Who knows? They may have more advanced cell phones or consume news exclusively from digital devices. So, looking at something like a newspaper clipping will be a fascinating experience for them. Whats more? Getting to know their grandparents fashion statement might also be fun for them!
How do you make it interesting?

There are several ways to make an interesting time capsule. You can include thoughtful items like a copy of your favourite book, a t-shirt you would like to pass on as your legacy or even an old cell phone or a watch that you dont use. You could also add some newspaper clips from the present day.
You could also leave instructions as clues that will help your kids or grandkids open the box and unravel its contents. They would understand how cool their grandparent was while getting to know how the world was during their times!
You can write a big message on the time capsule that says – Open in 2030! or This treasure must be opened only after 2040 – to make it all the more exciting.
When do you want to open it?
We would suggest a minimum of 10 years! However, its really up to you and you could even choose 30 years, 50 years or even a 100! The world would be drastically different then from what it is now. Imagine how exciting it would be for someone to get a first-hand peek into the world a whole century ago!
Your grandkids may also be learning about Covid-19 in their history or biology lessons. Getting to see a news article written from those times would be enriching, wouldnt it?

Wow it’s such a good idea……? It will be so fun to make it….. ??I will definitely try this….. I will be decorating it by colouring and making cute little things on it. And then I will keep some memories of 2021 in it like some newspapers, some photos of my childhood, some creative things that I made, some cards that are given by my friends and families etc. And then like the example was given to make this d i y more interesting OK I will right on it”don’t open until 2041″and then I will keep this box in a very secret place. And I know when the time will come to open my treasure box I will be so happy to remember my memories of childhood and tears will fall from my eyes in the memory of my happiest time. (My childhood ,my parents, their love, my friends ,how I used to be naughty and then my parents used to punish me e then the used to you make me understand what is right what is wrong… )But in real in that time it would be my age to make the future children make this understand……

My time capsule is made up of a hard plastic box (because plastics are non biodegradable) and write on it to open after 2065. I keep some newspaper cutting (includes safety from covid19 and the worse situation of this time),my watch(stopped with date and time),
a cell phone and a letter describing about the time capsule and situation of this year and last year. And last but not least i write present date on the box…..

Before the announcement of this activity, I was already making my own time capsule but with the help of byju’s now I can make my capsule more historic. And in my opinion we can also store our favourite music band’s logo, our favourite snacks package or our favourite doodle/ drawing. I have also preserved my family’s finger and hand prints for cosier memories. I hope my future generation would love this but I don’t really want to share one of my most precious treasure ??

I will make a time capsule in which I will keep a ball, a stapler, some toys and a message to the future in a paper. I will write ‘Open this box in the year 2032’ on the top side of box. I will use a cardboard box for this amazing DIY. Thanks Byjus for this nice activity ??.

A time capsule! I did not know what that was until now. Thank you BYJU’s for making my plain boring vacation into a fun-filled indoor month boosting our creativity. And oh yes, My time capsule will contain my favorite book, A few pictures, A note about lockdown and Covid 19 and also a print out of this page that encouraged me to make the time capsule. I will decorate it with stickers at the side and in the middle, in fancy handwriting, My time capsule will be written. Thank you once again for giving this idea.

I’ve once already done this with my friends and they were so curious about it .we hid it in the garden and they were so curious that they opened it after just 3 days and they do known that I would scold them so they hid this thing from me. after 2 yrs when it was really the time to open they apologized to me and said the whole story thank you byju’s for bringing these memories back.

My time capsule will be made of a very hard plastic box and will have a phone, a watch, a box of cards (Pokémon), 1 small b!Lok and a piece of paper describing the objects, naming the objects and telling the date this box was buried. I plan on showing it to my grandchildren.

Wow its such a good idea ? It will be so fun to make it .. ??I will definitely try this .. I will be decorating it by colouring and making cute little things on it. And then I will keep some memories of 2021 in it like some newspapers, some photos of my childhood, some creative things that I made, some cards that are given by my friends and families etc. And then like the example was given to make this d i y more interesting OK I will right on itdont open until 2041?and then I will keep this box in a very secret place. And I know when the time will come to open my treasure box I will be so happy to remember my memories of childhood and tears will fall from my eyes in the memory of my happiest time. (My childhood ,my parents, their love, my friends ,how I used to be naughty and then my parents used to punish me e then the used to you make me understand what is right what is wrong )But in real in that time it would be my age to make the future children make this understand

Wow!! This is such an interesting activity!!! Instead of just sitting at home doing nothing we can spend this time in making the time capsule. I am really excited!! I haven’t started making the capsule yet but I am getting excited before!! 😀

I’ve tried countless of times making a time capsule ( of all the books I read, the fictional charecters I fangirl over and stuff) but I actually never went long before I opened it to have a look at the things I kept in it. Hopefully, one of these day I will NOT open a time capsule after I made it.

We can also put inside some mask and used sanitizer bottles. And a pic of ourselves with the family in lockdown.

It’s an interesting idea to make a time capsule. The things I want to add in that capsule is mentioned below:
1. How and when this virus came from?
2.explain everything about COVID19 like symptoms and precautions.
3. how this virus came in my state Chhattisgarh. And how we overcome?
4.The role of Doctors and our civil servants is like how God protect us.
5. Aware of getting the vactionation.
6.how COVID19 affects our study, business, and overall country’s GDP.
7. A journey of being a villain to a super Hero:- SONU SOOD.
8. How the prime minister and cheif minister take the big decision in this tough time.
9. How everyone from every religious celebrate there festivals at home for the very first time.

Wow its such a good idea ? It will be so fun to make it .. ??I will definitely try this .. I will be decorating it by colouring and making cute little things on it. And then I will keep some memories of 2021 in it like some newspapers, some photos of my childhood, some creative things that I made, some cards that are given by my friends and families etc. And then like the example was given to make this d i y more interesting OK I will right on itdont open until 2041?and then I will keep this box in a very secret place. And I know when the time will come to open my treasure box I will be so happy to remember my memories of childhood and tears will fall from my eyes in the memory of my happiest time. (My childhood ,my parents, their love, my friends ,how I used to be naughty and then my parents used to punish me e then the used to you make me understand what is right what is wrong )But in real in that time it would be my age to make the future children make this understand
