No matter how hard a paper is, a great exam strategy can turn the tides in your favour. To make your preparations effective, you need to embark on creating a great plan, one that fits your style of learning. Chalking out a strategy is not the hardest part but implementing it is. So dont just leave it on a piece of paper, enforce it!
Heres what you should consider while chalking out your exam prep strategy.
Selecting the perfect time to study
You need to decide how much time you need to allocate every single day. The key take-away here is the importance of following the same routine on a daily basis. When selecting a time make sure to include the most productive time of the day, which tends to vary from person to person. For example, some of you might be very productive early in the morning at around 5 am while others maybe a little later. Depending on what kind of person you are you can select a time that sits well with you. The first couple of days might be a bit hard but then gradually your brain will condition itself to adjust to this new setting.
Managing your time
Time management deals with allocating your time for all the subjects you need to cover. It also deals with how much time needs to be given for each section of each subject. Harder subjects and sections need to be given more attention and hence more time needs to be slotted for them. List out the topics you need to study on a particular day and make sure to finish your task by the end of the day. For better time utilisation, heres a novel study technique called the Pomodoro.
A slot for revision
While preparing your plan make sure to include ample time for revision. Revisiting topics is how you solidify what you learn. This helps you recall all concepts and other things learned quickly in the examination hall. The faster you can recollect the faster you can complete your paper. Revision slots can help to ensure that you do not forget what you had just recently learnt. It helps in moving what you have learnt from your short-term memory to your long-term memory.
Making use of flashcards
Its a lot easier to remember something when you are learning with the help of visual aids. This is because visual aids help registering concepts in your mind much better than just raw text. When you study, try to use diagrams to understand complex concepts. You could also try writing things down on a piece of paper or on cards. This helps in better recall and retention of information. These cards are called flashcards and they can be pretty useful when you do your revision.
Asking for help!
Doubts are a part of the learning process and you are bound to come across a few every day. And dont hesitate to ask for help when you do. You could seek the help of your teacher at school but that might require you to wait until you reach school.
